Who Should Attend this Camp?
This camp is designed to give Tallahassee youth an outlet to get a crash course on the sport of wrestling in a summer camp environment. It's for wrestlers from grades K-12.
Wrestlers without experience will be placed in our beginner group and get a ton of 1:1 attention on the basics of wrestling.
Those with a strong knowledge of the basics will be in our intermediate/advanced group, and learn about the finer details in wrestling.
Camp Facilities & Group Setup
This year's Summer Camp will take place at Level Up Futbol from July 8th - 12th at our home location at Level Up Futbol at 431 Capital Circle SW A in Tallahassee. It'll be capped at 60 campers, who will be split into two groups based upon age/experience.
Two coaches will be with the Beginners, and Two Coaches will be with the Intermediate/Advanced Group.
Beginner Group Itinerary
This group will generally be comprised of wrestlers from ages 6-10 with limited to no practice or competition experience.
The curriculum focuses on the basic concepts and techniques from neutral, bottom, and top positions.

10:00am - 10:30am - Team Game (Soccer, Football, etc).
10:30am - 11:00am - Break/Recovery

12:00pm - 1:00pm - Lunch Break - Wrestling Film/Documentary as we eat.
1:00 - 2:30pm - Technique Session #3
2:30 - 3:00 pm - Team Game
3:00 - 3:45 - Live Wrestling (situation, matches, etc.)
4:00pm - Parent Pickup

Monday
Session 1: Basics of Neutral Wrestling Attacking -- Stance, Motion, Level Change, Handfighting & Proper Penetration Steps
Game: Shirt Tails
Session 2: Double Leg Setups and Finishes
Session 3: High Crotch Setups & Basic Finishes
Live Wrestling: King of the Mat Neutral & top/bottom (time permitting)
Tuesday
Session 1: Single Leg Setups & Finishes
Game: Bulldog
Session 2: Sprawling & Downblocking, Intro to Front Headlock
Session 3: Short Offense/Front Headlock Attacks
Live Wrestling: Situations from Front Headlock and Single Legs -- Live Matches
Wednesday
Session 1: Breakdowns from the Top Position
Game: Dodgeball
Session 2: Crossface/Smash Series (Cradle/Turk/Bundles)
Session 3: Half/Power Half/Half Defense
Live Wrestling: Attack Bands then live top and bottom
Thursday
Session 1: Bar/Wing Series
Game: Matball
Session 2: Bottom Wrestling 101s (quadpod standup, switch, sit and turn, peterson, granby, etc.)
Session 3: Building Your Base on Bottom When Broken Down (how to handfight, reverse army crawl, clear control, get hand control, etc.)
Live Wrestling: King of the Mat: Neutral, then Attack Bands
Friday
Session 1: Basic Throws (headlock, lateral drop, bear hugs, etc.)
Game: Team Dance Competition
Session 2: Miscellaneous Fun Techniques (merkel, banana split, dresser dump, etc).
1:30 - 4:00pm: Dual Meet Competition - during lunch, we'll break the entire camp into 4 equal teams comprised of 10 members per side. Campers will come up with a team name, and wrestle 2 Dual Matches to determine which team is the GHWC Camp Champ!

Intermediate/Advanced Group Itinerary
This group will generally be comprised of wrestlers ages 11-18 who have practice and competition experience. Younger campers may be placed in this group if they have shown the technical ability and maturity to keep up with the demands.
The curriculum is advanced, and assumes you have a strong knowledge of the basics. The positions and techniques covered are designed to take wrestlers to the next level of their training.

Monday
Session 1: Handfighting 101s and Concepts: Clearing Ties, Pummeling, Underhooks, Russian Ties, Arm Drags, etc.
Live Wrestling: Live Situations from major handfighting positions
Session 2: Shots off of Handfight Situations -- Learning How to Properly Handfight, Dictate a Tieup, Have a Plan, and Attack.
Session 3: Downblocking, Creating Angles, and Re-Attacking
Live Wrestling: 6 minute matches (3) - new partner each match.
Conditioning: Jogging & calisthenics between (pushups, situps, squats, stance and motion drill, etc)
Tuesday
Session 1: Front Headlock Defense (Dumps, circling out to arm drag, throwby, sucker drags, etc.)
Live Wrestling: Live Situations from Front Headlocks
Session 2: Crosswrist Tilt Series
Session 3: Introduction to Leg Riding - Positioning, Setups, and Breakdowns
Live Wrestling: Groups of 3; 1 vs 2, 1 vs 3, 3 vs 2 ; neutral & top/bottom
Conditioning: Buddy Carries (double leg, single leg, piggy back, fireman's carry, bridal carry)
Wednesday
Session 1: Leg Riding Turns (power half, scrape, wheel, guillotine, split)
Live Wrestling: Live Situations from Leg Riding
Session 2: Crab Riding 101 (setups, cheap tilts, etc.)
Session 3: Legride & Crab Ride Defense
Live Wrestling: King of the Mat from Neutral
Conditioning: Sprints, Bear Crawls, Baby Crawls, Squat Jumps
Thursday
Session 1: High Level Takedown Defense (funk roll, Yianni high c defense, sitting the corner from high c, broomstick tilt from single, Spladle, etc)
Live Wrestling: Situations allowing them to try these defenses
Session 2: Upper Body Techniques (inside trip, underarm spin, saltoe, etc)
Session 3: Bottom Wrestling Handfighting -- learning how to seal off, keep balance, and negate your opponents breakdowns)
Live Wrestling: Groups of 4 Neutral, Takedown Stays in.
Conditioning: The Circuit
Friday
Session 1: Problem Solving: High Crotch Crackdown & Finishes
Session 2: Out the Back Door Finishes When Stuck Underneath
1:30 - 4:00pm: Dual Meet Competition
Wrestling Films Through the Week
Monday: "Mocco" -- current Florida USA Wrestling President & club owner in Coconut Creek, FL - a story about his Iowa & Oklahoma State College Career, and the mean attitude that carried him to multiple NCAA titles.
Tuesday: "My Best Rival: Kyle Dake & David Taylor" -- follows the friendship and rivalry of two of the best American wrestlers ever to live, who happen to have wrestled one another at every major level, including NCAA Championships.
Wednesday: "My Name is Jordan" -- discusses the college and international career of the best wrestler in American history, Jordan Burroughs, who has won 8 world championships & 2 Olympic titles.
Thursday: "Ben Askren: The Funk" -- NCAA Champion, MMA Champion, and inventor of a technique that changed wrestling forever, the funk roll. This documentary follows his historic career at Missouri, and the evolution of a technique that he created and refined to baffle the wrestling world.

Please ensure they eat breakfast before camp. These are long days, and they'll need fuel. Lunch is provided, as well as drinks throughout the day. During movie time, they'll have time to eat a snack if they wish. Please bring your own.

We will be throwing a ton of valuable information at these wrestlers, especially the advanced group. Taking notes while being taught will help reinforce fine points when they're looking back at what they learned, and help them retain the information.

Dropoff is at 8am daily. Pickup is at 4pm daily. Please do your best to be on time for both.

About a week prior to the camp, we will send an email with any additional details.

A lunch menu will be provided in that email, and added to this website.

If anyone has dietary restrictions based upon the menu, please plan to pack a lunch for your child on that particular day.
